Christmas Bunny Rescue
On the night of Christmas eve, at around midnight, 5 poor bunnies were dumped at the rescue. These bunnies were not only left in the freezing cold without much bedding, but they were also left without food or water. Luckily, the previous owners had a tiny bit of decency left in them and sent us a text saying they had brought the rabbits to us. The rabbits were left in an unused shed, up the road from the rescue. If the people who surrendered them hadn't sent that text, they would not have been found and certainly wouldn't have survived. In an open shed on a farm, in the middle of fields, where foxes are often roaming in search of food, the poor bunnies were left cold, confused and terrified.
Despite waking up happy and excited for Christmas, we were soon saddened at the fact someone could do something so horrible at a time of year meant for kindness. Our own Christmas plans with our families clearly weren't important to these people and they didn't even have the decency to thank us for our help - all we received was a very rude, upsetting text message. We have no information about these rabbits and no details of their owner - just a phone number (which they won't answer) and the fact they are from Anna Valley in Andover. We are keen to speak to the owners if anyone knows who they came from. Equally, if anyone knows of anyone missing rabbits (stolen, escaped, etc), we wouldn't put it past these people to have taken someone's pets.
The rabbits are 2 males - one black, one white - and 3 females - one white, two black (most likely pregnant as 2 males and 2 females were together). They are now warm, dry, fed and watered, but we are overflowing as it is and did not have the capacity to be taking in another 5 rabbits.
We work tirelessly to care for all of our animals and have rescued over 450 rabbits and guinea pigs in the past 3 years. We thought nothing more would shock us, but we have been proven wrong. For anyone wishing to surrender an animal, there is a form on our website. We never judge and will do all we can to help in an urgent situation - all it takes is a phone call or email. Sadly the owner of these bunnies risked their lives just to "get rid" of them.
All 5 of these bunnies will need neutering and vaccinating and, as you're probably aware, this isn't cheap! If you are able to donate even just a pound or two, we and the bunnies would be so incredibly grateful.
On a more positive note, we hope you all had a fantastic Christmas with lots of fun and festivities! We are now looking for Christmas inspired names for these 5 rabbits... suggestions please! 🐰🎄❄
